Comments over the machu picchu Sanctuary Lodge Hotel:
Lonnely planet:
The Sanctuary Lodge is the only place to stay at Machu Picchu itself. Rates have skyrocketed recently and are overpriced for what you get, though it’s a still often full so book as far ahead as possible in the high season. Only two rooms have views of the ruins, but all rooms are equipped with every luxury, and there’s a new terrace with a partial view of the site. The hotel restaurant serves a good but expensive buffet lunch and supper and there’s a cafeteria serving pricey snacks and light meals on a patio by the ruins. Bring a packet lunch and water bottle if possible, though you’ll have to leave food in the cloakroom outside the site.

If you can get a reservation, this hotel at the entrance to Machu Picchu puts you closest to the ruins, a position for which you admittedly pay dearly. Not only will you have the thrill of watching the sun rise over the crumbling stone walls, but you'll have the ruins to yourself after most of the tourists depart each afternoon. The restaurant has an excellent international menu that makes it worth a special trip.
